A 31-Week Outdoor Homeschool Enrichment Program for Ages 5–11
For homeschool families in Cedar Park and surrounding communities, Iron Oak Academy offers something children need more of: meaningful challenge, real-world skills, time outdoors, and the confidence that comes from discovering, “I can do this.”
A program from Soul of Oak Outdoor School, Iron Oak Academy is a 31-week, full-day outdoor enrichment program where students spend one day each week learning through hands-on exploration, field science, bushcraft, teamwork, problem-solving, and age-appropriate adventure.
Our curriculum is built around four essential pillars of self-reliance:
Food • Water • Shelter • Energy
Through these themes, students explore ecology, botany, physics, engineering, practical outdoor skills, environmental stewardship, and leadership—not simply by reading about them, but by experiencing them firsthand.
Two Developmental Learning Paths
🌱 Roots & Discovery | Ages 5–7
Bell Park
Designed around the way young children learn best—through movement, curiosity, sensory exploration, story, and hands-on discovery.
Students build foundational confidence through trail awareness, animal tracking, plant identification, simple shelter building, knots, water and weather exploration, food preparation, and age-appropriate outdoor skills.
The goal isn't to rush childhood.
It's to give children room to explore, try, make mistakes, and discover that challenges can be exciting—and that they are more capable than they realize.
🛡️ Iron & Apprenticeship | Ages 8–11
Lakeline Park
As children grow, so does the challenge.
Older students move beyond basic nature exploration into more applied learning, including navigation, shelter engineering, water systems, fire and energy concepts, field botany, knots and construction, outdoor food preparation, age-appropriate tool skills, teamwork, and leadership.
Students are encouraged to think critically, solve problems, take responsibility, and work with others—building the self-reliance and judgment that will serve them far beyond the outdoors.
Challenge With Intention. Adventure With Boundaries.
At Iron Oak Academy, children are given opportunities to stretch beyond their comfort zones in a thoughtfully supervised, age-appropriate environment.
Our intentional 8:1 student-to-mentor ratio allows for personalized instruction, close supervision, and meaningful mentorship while still giving children the space to experiment, problem-solve, and build genuine independence.
We don't believe in unnecessary risk.
We believe in earned confidence.
Because children grow when they are supported enough to feel secure—and trusted enough to try.
